Shrnutí: | This dissertation investigates the identity of the rock genre produced in Porto Alegre in the 1980s, focusing on the cultural and sociopolitical influences that shaped the music produced in the region. The main objective is to analyze whether rock from Rio Grande do Sul, as a musical and cultural movement, presents distinct characteristics from national rock, popularly known as BRock. The research seeks to explore the unique forms of expression of this genre, especially regarding the influence of the sociocultural context of the region, marked by the harsh climate of the South, the influences of the triple border with Argentina and Uruguay, and the strong bond with local identity. The central problems of the research can be formalized as follows: a) What differentiates rock bands from Porto Alegre from other national rock bands? Is it the way they perform the genre? b) Do the lyrics portray everyday situations in our state, or do they reflect the poetic influence related to the aesthetics of Rio Grande do Sul? c) Would Argentine Rock have an influence on the way these bands compose and play? d) If this process that differentiates rock produced in Porto Alegre is truly distinct, what characteristics make it unique in comparison to rock produced by national bands? The dissertation addresses the construction of the identity of Rio Grande do Sul rock based on an analysis of songs and extramusical elements. The songs chosen are from the album Rock Grande do Sul, released in 1986 by RCA Victor. The album has ten songs, of which five were chosen for analysis, namely: Sopa de Letrinha, Surfista Calhorda, Entra Nessa, Me Leva Embora and Instinto Sexual. The analysis was done from both a lyrical and musical point of view, observing how the lyrics reflect cultural aspects of the region, such as the use of slang and references to the cold, in addition to other identity elements that contribute to the differentiation of Rio Grande do Sul rock in relation to the rest of Brazil. Another fundamental aspect of the research is the analysis of the importance of radio stations in the dissemination and popularization of rock in the state. During the 1980s, radio stations such as Ipanema and Atlântida played a crucial role in promoting bands from Rio Grande do Sul, providing them with visibility. Finally, the dissertation explores the concept of borders and identity in the context of music produced in Porto Alegre, suggesting that Rio Grande do Sul rock not only reflects local culture, but also dialogues with the cultures of neighboring countries, creating a hybrid identity marked by the intersection of local and international elements. |
