Summary: | Law 11.645/08 mandates the inclusion of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history and culture in all stages of basic education. However, despite the existence of legal guidelines, the implementation of education for ethnic-racial relations (ERER) still faces challenges within the school context. In this sense, this dissertation investigates how literary texts are integrated into the promotion of ERER in public schools of the state education network in Passo Fundo (RS), through interviews with teachers working in both elementary and high school levels. The general objective of the research is to analyze literary reading practices in the classroom, considering their potential as tools for the development of reading skills, critical thinking, and anti-racist education. The study adopts a qualitative methodological approach and employs documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews with six teachers holding degrees in Languages and Pedagogy. The responses were organized into analytical categories that allowed reflection on the teacher is reading education experiences, the presence (or absence) of ERER in schools, the authors and literary works studied, the teaching methodologies employed, the challenges encountered, and the students’ engagement throughout the activities. The results indicate that, although there are occasional initiatives, the work with Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous literature remains incipient, often limited to commemorative dates. This highlights the need for ongoing teacher training, effective public policies, and intentional pedagogical practices that connect literature, social critique, and the construction of an anti-racist school culture. |
