Summary: Film festivals are an alternative window of exhibition, and it carries several symbolic factors: touristic, governmental, economic, social, cultural. In this way, film festivals are periodic events that work in a general and in a segmented way, that is, in a thematic form and/or with specifications that unite the films in some way. Within this scope are the student and university festivals, linked to their different forms of experimentation to the student, either at the middle, high and technical school (student), or at college (university) school, serving at some point as to its participants for the audiovisual sector as a teaching practice. The purpose of this article is to analyze the characteristics of each type of event, as well to offer a geographical mapping of the festivals of these categories, through the student and university festivals that opened the process for submission of films in the year of 2016.
