The productive performance of the common bean crop can be directly influenced by the management practices adopted throughout its growth cycle. For this crop to develop properly, effective weed control must be implemented from the beginning of the cycle. Given this, the objective of this study was to evaluate different bean cultivars in response to the application of the herbicide Ethoxysulfuron and to assess the potential effects its use may have on the crop. The experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of the Federal University of Technology – Paraná, Dois Vizinhos campus. The effect of the herbicide on bean plants was evaluated using different cultivars: Urutau (T1), IAC 1850 (T2), IPR Sabiá (T3), ITR Tangará (T4), IAC Veloz (T5), IAC 2051 (T6), and ITR Uirapuru (T7), with all cultivars receiving the same herbicide treatment. A randomized design was used, with each cultivar assigned to a treatment group. The study evaluated the effects of applying the recommended dose, with comparisons made against control groups. During the experiment, weekly assessments were conducted after the herbicide application to monitor plant development, plant stand, the occurrence of phytotoxicity, and plant height. At the end of the evaluation period, stem thickness, root length, fresh biomass, dry biomass, and the number of leaves per plant were measured. It was observed that Ethoxysulfuron had varying effects among the bean cultivars, with notable differences in phytotoxicity levels, plant height, leaf count, and fresh biomass. Some cultivars showed greater tolerance to the herbicide, maintaining good vegetative development.
