Summary: Milk production stands out as one of the main skills of buffaloes and commercial milk is almost entirely destined for industrialization, which is particularly concentrated in the Southeast region of Brazil. Therefore, the present work aimed to carry out a characterization of the producing properties in the region of Vale do Ribeira, in the state of São Paulo, which is responsible for 40% of the national herd. The survey of producers and application of the questionnaire was carried out virtually through the Google Forms platform and in person with interviews from March to May 2022. It was possible to obtain results for 19 properties dedicated to milk production, representing only 4 % of properties in the region. It was observed that breeding occurs mainly on small and medium-sized properties, with herds of up to 200 Murrah and Mediterranean animals. Producers receive, on average, R$3.40 from dairy products and the average production is 5.5 liters, however, more technified properties manage to achieve higher production. Milking normally takes place once a day, mostly without the calf at the foot. Through the answers obtained, it was possible to obtain a positive result regarding hygiene during the milking period and prevention of cases of mastitis on the properties, this occurs mainly thanks to professionals who help producers. For the most part, reproductive management is done using natural mating and fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) and selection is done through superior breeders and matrices. The water supply is made through drinking fountains or weir. The use of mineral salt as a source of supplementation occurs in 60.71% of the properties, but bulky and concentrated sources are also used. As for the use of commercial concentrated supplementation, 74% of the producers report that they do not use it. Capim Tangola is present in 32% of the properties, however, producers also reported the implementation of Capiaçu in some areas. There is a feeling of producers regarding the potential of the sector that is profitable, however, it is necessary to raise awareness on the part of small producers regarding the improvement of reproductive, productive and milk quality indices. The development of dairy buffalo farming is growing and the support of financial, government and other bodies present in the region can contribute to studies, training and improvements that favor and guarantee the expansion of the production chain.

Universidade Tecnológica Federal do ParanáDois VizinhosBrasilZootecniaUTFPRMaeda, Emilyn MidoriMartini, Ana Paula MachadoMontagner, Marcelo MarcosMaeda, Emilyn MidoriCamargo, Bárbara Liz Silva2024-02-06T19:08:47Z2024-02-06T19:08:47Z2022-06-28info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesisapplication/pdfCAMARGO, Bárbara Liz Silva.
