Population aging is a worldwide phenomenon. In Brazil, this process has been developing for decades and with this the demand for quality housing grows. The private sector has already realized this insufficiency and is the main investor in an undertaking of this type. Although the Elderly Statute establishes that the individual has the right to an independent life and to participate actively in society. The reality shows that many live alone or with family members who do not have the time to take care of their demands. In this way, many are institutionalized, in private homes, in which the individual loses his freedom, compromising his physical and mental wellbeing. In this sense, this research seeks to understand these needs through the analysis of bibliographic and architectural references in order to propose an architectural project that promotes the autonomy and quality of life of elderly residents of Pinhais, Paraná.
