Efeito de dança aeróbia e step sobre as respostas afetivas de mulheres idosas

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that affective responses of pleasure/displeasure during exercise are related to initial engagement and adherence to an exercise program. However, these effects were verified by acute responses during exercise mainly in relation of changes on affective response during one exercise session, limited are the studies that demonstrated chronic effects. It is possible that several others internal/external factors can be important determinants for the engagement and adherence in an exercise program. These facts could minimize the effect of feeling pleasure/displeasure. To verify this hypothesis, the purpose of this study was to analyze ideographically the affective responses during a single exercise session as well as during selected sessions throughout a 12 weeks exercise program in older women, and to compare changes in affective, perceptual and heart rate responses during a Bench Step exercise program. Data from the treatment group of a quasiexperimental study were derived from older women (65-75 years old). Affective responses (AR) were measured by the Feeling Scale; heart rate responses were measured using a Polar monitor, and the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) was obtained by the OMNI-Bench Stepping RPE scale. Measurements were made before, each 10-min during the session, and 15-min after the cool-down ended (Session). The Bench Step exercise program consisted of 3 session/week, 30-60-min on duration, totaling 36 sessions. The exercise program consisted of a warm-up phase (WU), conditioning phase (CP), and cool-down phase (CD). Descriptive data were analyzed by mean and standard deviation; one-way ANOVA was used to compare AR, HR, and RPE during the first (S1), middle (S18) and the last (S36) exercise sessions (p<0.05). Eight older women participated in this study (mean age: 72.1 ± 4.5 yrs), with BMI of 28.6kg/m2 (±5.2), and classified as low socioeconomic level. Heart rate increases from the WU to CP and then decreases from CP to 15-min after CD (Session), similar responses were found for the rating of perceived exertion – significant differences are shown in the table 1 (p<0,05). Controversially, affective responses remained constant during the exercise sessions.

No entanto, esses efeitos foram verificados por respostas agudas durante o exercício, principalmente em relação a mudanças nas respostas afetivas durante uma sessão de exercício e limitados são os estudos de efeito crônico. É possível que vários outros fatores internos e externos possam modular as respostas afetivas, sendo determinantes para o engajamento e aderência à prática. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo é analisar o efeito da intensidade do exercício sobre as respostas afetivas de mulheres idosas ao longo de uma sessão e de um programa com a modalidade de Dança Aeróbia e Step (DASt). Os dados do grupo de tratamento de um estudo quase experimental foram derivados de oito mulheres idosas (65 - 75anos). As respostas afetivas (RA) foram medidas pela Escala de afeto, a frequência cardíaca (FC) foi obtida através de um monitor cardíaco (Polar- FT1) e a percepção subjetiva do esforço (PSE) mencionada através da escala OMNI-Step. As medidas foram feitas antes, a cada 10 minutos durante a sessão e 15 minutos após o volta à calma da sessão. O tratamento foi constituído de 3 sessões semanais, com 30-60min de duração, totalizando 36 sessões de Dança Aeróbica e Step. O programa de exercícios constituiu de fase de aquecimento, fase de condicionamento e fase de volta à calma. Os dados descritivos foram analisados por média e desvio padrão; ANOVA foi utilizada para comparar RA, FC e PSE durante a primeira (S1), intermediária (S18) e última (S36) sessão de exercício, com variância p<0,05.
