The main objective of this work is to analyze the implementation of an energy efficiency project in public lighting in the city of Curitiba, Paraná. This work puts into question the economic feasibility of using LED technology in public lighting in the city of Curitiba, Paraná. This study demonstrates that the current LED stage enables its use as a tool to reduce the demand and consumption of electricity. Even with a high initial cost, replacing discharge lamps by LEDs offers a return on investment. For this, it was necessary to conduct a survey of data regarding public lighting, focusing on the model adopted by the city of Curitiba. Based on data obtained from the concessionaire’s website and information provided by the city hall, it was possible to establish the costs of the luminaires and the direct and indirect costs of its implementation. After collecting the data, it was possible to perform a comparative analysis between the current lighting model of the system and the modernized system with the use of LEDs only. Finally, the data was used to estimate the economic viability of the project in this municipality, reaching the conclusion that the exchange of discharge lamps for LED fixtures will be beneficial to the city.
