Teachers’ digital competence in the Practicum of a Primary Education Degree: reflections on the use of technology in the classroom

Summary: | Teachers’ digital competence is already considered in teacher training as an essential competence that future teachers must achieve. However, this is still a novel reality that needs to be contrasted with the current reality of teacher education programs. This study seeks to determine how digital teaching competence is developed in the Practicum of the degree in Primary Education at the University of Barcelona. The qualitative analysis focuses on the uses of technology made explicit in the pre-service teachers' reflective portfolios and the characterization of their reflections derived from those uses. The results of the analysis show that pre-service teachers reflect on three distinct uses of digital tools: those observed in the educational context of their Practicum, those used for the creation of materials, and those used for students to develop their digital competence. From these three uses of digital tools, reflections are derived from the students' practical experience. Their reflections are expressed with positive assessments, but mostly in an initial reflective stage: the one in which pre-service teachers establish a mere description of reality. The study's results invite us to propose the need for greater development of awareness of the digital component in teaching, both in the development of their degree studies and throughout the Practicum. |

Sin embargo, esta todavía es una realidad que necesita ser cotejada con la situación actual de la formación de profesores. Este estudio busca determinar cómo se desarrolla la competencia digital docente en las prácticas docentes de los profesores en formación del grado en maestro en educación primaria de la Universidad de Barcelona a partir del análisis cualitativo de los usos de la tecnología que se explicitan en los portafolios reflexivos y de la caracterización de las reflexiones derivadas de esos usos. El resultado del análisis muestra que los profesores en formación reflexionan sobre tres usos diversos de las herramientas digitales: las observadas en el contexto educativo, las utilizadas para la creación de materiales y las utilizadas para que su alumnado desarrolle su competencia digital. De estos tres usos de herramientas digitales se derivan reflexiones centradas, mayoritariamente, en la experiencia práctica de los alumnos, se construyen a partir de valoraciones en general positivas, pero se construyen en su inmensa mayoría en un estadio reflexivo inicial: aquel en el que el profesor en formación establece una mera descripción de la realidad sobre la que reflexiona. Los resultados del estudio invitan a proponer la necesidad de una mayor concienciación de lo digital a nivel formativo, tanto en el desarrollo de los estudios de grado como a lo largo de las prácticas docente.A competência digital docente já é considerada na formação como uma competência essencial a ser alcançada pelos futuros professores. No entanto, esta ainda é uma realidade nova que precisa ser contrastada com a realidade atual dos programas de formação de professores. Este estudo busca determinar como a competência de ensino digital é desenvolvida no estágio da licenciatura em Pedagogia da Universidade de Barcelona. A análise qualitativa centra-se nos usos da tecnologia explicitados nos portfólios reflexivos dos futuros professores e na caracterização das suas reflexões derivadas desses usos. Os resultados da análise mostram que os futuros professores refletem sobre três utilizações distintas das ferramentas digitais: as observadas no contexto educativo do seu Estágio, as utilizadas para a criação de materiais e as utilizadas para os alunos desenvolverem a sua competência digital. A partir desses três usos de ferramentas digitais, as reflexões são derivadas da experiência prática dos alunos. As suas reflexões são expressas com avaliações positivas, mas sobretudo numa fase reflexiva inicial: aquela em que os futuros professores estabelecem uma mera descrição da realidade.
