Partindo de uma linha de leitura que afirma a atmosfera decadentista da escrita de Mário de Sá-Carneiro, nosso texto pretende fazer uma análise interpretativa da novela A Confissão de Lúcio enfocando a presença do mito de Salomé na obra. Por ser a imagem da mulher majestosa e triunfante, misteriosa e enigmática, sedutora e fatal, Salomé representa a figura da mulher esfíngica, tão aclamada pela estética decadentista. Nossa leitura pretende demonstrar como a personagem Marta, pelas relações que estabelece com Lúcio e Ricardo, e por compor um enredo decadentista que privilegia personagens como dândis e estetas, pode ser lida como uma possível Salomé, entre as várias que intrigaram o novelista e poeta Mário de Sá- Carneiro.AMONG DANDIES AND DECADENTISTS, A POSSIBLE SALOME: A READING FROM MÁRIO DE SÁ CARNEIRO´S A CONFISSÃO DE LÚCIODeparting from a critical tradition that states the decadentist atmosphere of Mario de Sá-Carneiro’s writing, this text intends to make an interpretative analysis of the novel A Confissão de Lúcio in order to focus the presence of Salome’s myth in this work. Since Salome brings to mind the image of a majestic and triumphant woman, who is also mysterious and reserved, seducer and fatal, she may be seen as representing the figure of the enigmatic woman, so acclaimed by the decadentist aesthetic. This reading intends to demonstrate how the character Marta can be read as a possible Salome, among the several ones who puzzled the novelist and poet Mário de Sá-Carneiro, due to her relationship with Lúcio and Ricardo and due to the fact that she composes the novel’s decadentist plot along with dandies and aesthetes.
