Summary: This paper aims to analyze the history of Colombia from the perspective of Political History and the History of Education, focusing on the period known as La Regeneración (1880-1905). This was a period in Colombian history marked by the centralization of political power and the role of the Catholic Church in the educational system of that nation, whose objective was to promote the fulfillment of the civilizing path that the presidents of the regenerator movement sought to follow. This article, which originated from our doctoral research, is based on the analysis of written documentation related to the educational project of La Regeneración, based on the alliance between the Colombian State and the Catholic Church.

Se trata de un momento de la historia colombiana marcado por la centralización del poder político y el papel de la Iglesia Católica en el sistema educativo de la nación, cuyo objetivo era promover el cumplimiento del camino civilizatorio que pretendían seguir los presidentes del movimiento regeneracionista. Este artículo, que surge de nuestra investigación doctoral, se basa en el análisis de la documentación escrita relativa al proyecto educativo de La Regeneración, basado en la alianza entre el Estado colombiano y la Iglesia católica.O trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a história da Colômbia a partir do viés da História Política e da História da Educação, tendo como foco o período conhecido como La Regeneración (1880-1905). Trata-se de um momento da história colombiana marcado pela centralização do poder político e da atuação da Igreja Católica no sistema educacional daquela nação, cujo objetivo estava em promover o cumprimento da senda civilizadora que os presidentes do movimento regenerador visavam percorrer.
