Resumo: In this article, the authors analyze the elders’ role in the preservation and dissemination of Terena ethnoknowledge in the context of formal school, a public institution as a mediator between scientific knowledge constituted in the West and traditional knowledge built throughout the history of an original people. The main objective of the work is to analyze how teachers, from public schools existing in Terena villages, located in Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, use traditional knowledge of diverse knowledge to indigenous students’ transmission. Terena teachers tend to point out the relevant role of the wise elders as transmitters of traditional knowledge and highlight their importance for the education of students, it being up to the teachers to understand this knowledge and apply it in their pedagogical practices.

El objetivo más grande del trabajo es analizar cómo los profesores de escuelas públicas existentes en aldeas Terena, localizadas en el estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil, utilizan los conocimientos tradicionales en la transmisión de diversos saberes para los estudiantes indígenas. Los profesores Terena acostumbran a apuntar el papel relevante de los sabios ancianos como transmisores de saberes tradicionales y destacan su importancia para la educación de los alumnos, siento que los docentes son los que tienen que comprender esos saberes y aplicarlos en sus prácticas pedagógicas.Neste artigo os autores analisam o papel dos anciãos na preservação e divulgação do etnoconhecimento Terena no contexto da escola formal, instituição pública percebida como mediadora entre conhecimentos científicos constituídos no Ocidente e conhecimentos tradicionais construídos ao longo da história de um povo originário. O objetivo maior do trabalho é analisar como os professores de escolas públicas existentes em aldeias Terena, localizadas no estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil, utilizam os conhecimentos tradicionais na transmissão de diversos saberes para os estudantes indígenas.
