Resumo: This study aims at to analyzing the paternal perspective around paternity leave and this utility in the construction of the paternal identity. Ten fathers-mans participated in this study: five, which had five days of paternity leave and another five, which had twenty days of paternity leave. The participants filled out a sociodemographic form and took part in a semi structured individual interview through video conference, which was recorded and transcribed, the datas were analyzed through thematic analysis and the results were discussed with subsidies from Winnicottian psychoanalytic theory. The results indicate that the paternity leave is a moment treasured by these fathers-mans, encourages paternity and seems to hold influence on the mother-infant pair. However, the manner how paternity leave is currently done does not contemplate the necessities of the fathers-mans, mothers and children, since having to return to work so soon represents an impediment executing the functions demanded of him, therefore, it is necessary to develop spaces for listening and welcoming these men so that they can express their anxieties and concerns about fatherhood. These spaces are also important to further understand how effective the paternity leave period is.
