Summary: The objective was to investigate the relationship between Periodic Compulsive Eating Disorder (BED) and cognitive dysfunction among university students. To this end, a narrative review was carried out with articles from the Pubmed database, between 2010 and 2020; using as descriptors “binge eating disorder”, “adolescence”, “student”, “cognition” and “college”, in addition to AND as a Boolean operator. Based on the findings of these articles, it was found that there is a direct relationship between BED and the variables gender, sexuality, culture, beauty standards, cognition with rumination of ideas and affective aspects such as depression. Therefore, it can be concluded that culture can cause psychological distress and BED, with the influence of cognition and affective patterns.

Para ello, se realizó una revisión narrativa con artículos de la base de datos Pubmed, entre 2010 y 2020; utilizando como descriptores “trastorno por atracón”, “adolescencia”, “estudiante”, “cognición” y “universidad”, además de AND como operador booleano. Con base en los hallazgos de estos artículos, se encontró que existe una relación directa entre BED y las variables género, sexualidad, cultura, estándares de belleza, cognición con rumia de ideas y aspectos afectivos como la depresión. Por tanto, se puede concluir que la cultura puede provocar angustia psicológica y BED, con influencia de patrones cognitivos y afectivos.Objetivou-se investigar a relação entre o Transtorno Compulsivo Alimentar Periódico (TCAP) e as disfunções cognitivas entre os estudantes universitários. Para tanto, fez-se uma revisão narrativa com artigos do banco de dados Pubmed, no período entre 2010 e 2020; usando-se como descritores “binge eating disorder”, “adolescence”, “student”, “cognition” e “college”, além do “AND” como operador booleano. Com base nos achados desses artigos, encontrou-se que há relação direta entre o TCAP e as variáveis gênero, sexualidade, cultura, padrões de beleza, cognição com ruminação de ideias e aspectos afetivos como a depressão.
