Self-care of nurses in relation to the risks of work accidents: difficulties and facilities

Summary: The objective was to know the difficulties and facilities of nurses in adhering to self-care in relation to the risks of accidents at work. Qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, conducted at a University Hospital in southern Brazil. Method: Data collection was performed in July 2018, through semi-structured interview. Data analysis took place through thematic analysis. Results: Regarding the difficulties, the participants highlighted the lack of time during the assistance, high demand from users, procedures, lack of awareness among professionals, the inappropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment, among others. Regarding facilities, they reported the availability of Personal Protective Equipment. Conclusion: it is highlighted that it is necessary to reflect on the subject, on the part of all involved in the assistance, because it is understood that the risks exist and their prevention needs to be encouraged through continuous education.

Investigación cualitativa, exploratoria y descriptiva, realizada en un Hospital Universitario en el sur de Brasil. Método: la recolección de datos se realizó en julio de 2018, a través de una entrevista semiestructurada. El análisis de datos se realizó mediante análisis temático. Resultados: en cuanto a las dificultades, los participantes destacaron la falta de tiempo durante la asistencia, la alta demanda de los usuarios, los procedimientos, la falta de conciencia entre los profesionales, el uso inapropiado de equipos de protección personal, entre otros. En cuanto a las instalaciones, informaron la disponibilidad de equipos de protección personal. Conclusión: se destaca que es necesario reflexionar sobre el tema, por parte de todos los involucrados en la asistencia, porque se entiende que existen los riesgos y su prevención debe fomentarse a través de la educación continua.Objetivou-se conhecer as dificuldades e facilidades do enfermeiro em aderir ao autocuidado em relacionados aos riscos de acidentes de trabalho. Pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória e descritiva, realizada em um Hospital Universitário ao Sul do Brasil. Método: A coleta de dados foi executada no mês de julho de 2018, através de entrevista semiestruturada. A análise de dados se deu por meio da Análise temática. Resultados: Acerca das dificuldades, os participantes salientaram a falta de tempo durante a realização da assistência, alta demanda de usuários, de procedimentos, falta de conscientização dos profissionais, a utilização inadequada de Equipamento de Proteção Individual, entre outros. Em relação às facilidades relataram a disponibilidade de Equipamento de proteção individual.
