Os profetas do famoso mestre são a identidade da cidade e um dos maiores representantes da arte colonial brasileira.  As doze esculturas em pedra sabão fazem parte do complexo do Santuário do Bom Jesus do Matosinhos, construído no século XVIII, pelo português Feliciano Mendes, como pagamento de uma promessa pela graça alcançada. A pesquisa a seguir, se deu a partir da análise sobre um momento polêmico, vivido pela cidade diante da possibilidade de ver as famosas esculturas serem substituídas por réplicas e o que essa mudança poderia provocar na construção ou na reconstrução da memória e da identidade da população de Congonhas. Esse trabalho não pretende questionar sobre as consequências, benéficas ou maléficas, da substituição dos profetas, muito menos, almeja discutir a habilidade de Aleijadinho e sua importância na história da arte brasileira.  O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar, as possíveis interpretações da obra de Aleijadinho, para entender a construção e reconstrução de memórias e identidades provocadas pelas alterações já ocorridas ou pela ameaça de novas mudanças.  Para tal, o patrimônio será estudado como um elemento de difusão da identidade nacional, assim como, um artifício circundado de referências simbólicas, que são transformados em heranças culturais. Palavras- Chave: Profetas. Patrimônio. Memória. Identidade.ABSTRACT: In Congonhas, Minas Gerais, is the set formed by the Steps and Prophets of Antonio Francisco Lisboa, the Aleijadinho (1738-1814). The prophets of the famous master are the identity of the city and one of the greatest representatives of the Brazilian colonial art. The twelve sculptures in soapstone are part of the complex Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Matosinhos, built in the eighteenth century by the Portuguese Feliciano Mendes, as payment for a promise by the grace achieved. The survey below, took place from the analysis of a controversial moment lived by the city at the prospect of seeing famous sculptures are replaced by replicas and what that change would cause the building or memory reconstruction and the population's identity Congonhas. This work does not intend to ask about the consequences, beneficial or harmful, replacing the prophets, let alone crave discuss the ability of Aleijadinho and its importance in the history of Brazilian art. The objective of this research is to analyze the possible interpretations of the work of Aleijadinho, to understand the construction and reconstruction of memories and identities brought about by the changes that have already occurred or the threat of new changes. To this end, the assets will be studied as a national identity diffusion element as well as a device surrounded with symbolic references, which are transformed into cultural heritages.Keywords: Prophets.
