Summary: This article aims to analyze the performance of IPHAN on Natural Heritage in Brazil through the application of the heritage listing instrument. Methodologically, the research covers the entire period of the institute’s activities, from 1937 to January 2024. The study evaluates processes involving natural assets, as consulted on the institute's website, at any stage of their processing. Both the temporal and spatial distributions of the processes were analyzed. It was found that more than half of the processes were denied, and a significant percentage remains open. In terms of temporal distribution, the 1970s saw the highest number of processes resulting in listings. Regarding spatial distribution, the Southeast and Northeast regions have the highest number of both open processes and processes resulting in asset protection. In contrast, the Southern region is the only one without any Natural Heritage recognized by the institution.

Metodológicamente, la investigación abarcó todo el período de actuación del organismo, desde 1937 hasta enero de 2024, y evaluó los procesos que involucraban bienes naturales consultados en el sitio web de la institución, en cualquiera de sus etapas de instrucción. Se analizó la distribución temporal y espacial de los casos. Más de la mitad de ellos fueron desestimados y un porcentaje razonable permanece abierto. En cuanto a la distribución temporal, se constató que en la década de los 70 se produjo el mayor número de casos que dieron lugar a edificios catalogados. En cuanto a la distribución espacial, el sureste y el noreste presentan el mayor número de casos, tanto abiertos como con resultado de protección, mientras que el sur es la única región sin ningún sitio del Patrimonio Natural reconocido por la agencia.O presente artigo buscou analisar a atuação do IPHAN sobre o Patrimônio Natural no Brasil por meio da aplicação do tombamento. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa abrangeu todo o período de atuação do órgão, de 1937 até janeiro de 2024, tendo sido avaliados os processos envolvendo bens naturais consultados na página virtual da instituição, em qualquer um de seus estágios de instrução. Foram analisadas as distribuições temporal e espacial dos processos. Constatou-se que mais da metade deles foi indeferida e uma porcentagem razoável segue em aberto. Com relação à distribuição temporal, verificou-se que foi na década de 1970 que ocorreu o maior número de processos que resultaram em tombamentos.
