The article approaches exhibition practices developed in the School Museology at UNIRIO, Brazil, as academic experience - from the first initiatives in the 1960s to the creation, in the 1970s, of disciplines related to the development of curricular exhibitions. It encompasses the period from 1960s to 2004, when new professors assumed such disciplines. Special emphasis is given to the creative character of such works and to the tendency to focus on social themes, proving that this has been, from the beginning, a pedagogic nucleus committed to critical museology and to the education for freedom.
