This article analyzes, from the perspective of the civil liability institute, selected cases of traffic accidents involving autonomous vehicles governed by artificial intelligence. Such cases are imperative for studies, considering that artificial intelligence and automation play a significant role in everyday life and in the future, so that law has sought to adapt to the needs of the digital society so that legal action in this new field is possible. The objective of this study is to analyze the application of the civil liability institute in real cases with different elements and to observe the legal strategies and judicial responses followed in US courts. The methodology used is a qualitative approach, bibliographical and documentary type, with a deductive method and explanatory deepening. The results show that civil liability mostly affects drivers and that a pattern of exempting vehicle manufacturing companies from liability is repeated, based on the terms of use.
