Summary: The present paper shows a cutout of the research that investigates the processes of identity of Elementary School teachers of São Paulo state public school network. The development of the research promoted a discussion on the constitution of teaching professional identity, along with a theoretical framework on the topic. Therefore, the purpose of the present paper is to present the teachers’ perceptions regarding teaching and to understand how the process of constitution of professional identity occurs, based on the teachers’ statements and theoretical frameworks. The investigation has a qualitative approach; as the main procedure of the investigation, questionnaires and interviews were conducted with the research subjects, the teachers. For theoretical analysis, the method of content analysis was developed. From the analyses of collected data, we may infer that teaching identity develops through a lively and evolving process that can be influenced by internal and external factors, as well as by the relationships in professional context, which can be long or short depending on the circumstances of different moments and contexts.

El desarrollo de la investigación permitió discutir la constitución de la identidad profesional docente, junto con un marco teórico del tema. Así, el propósito de este artículo es presentar las percepciones de los maestros en relación a la docencia y comprender cómo se da el proceso de constitución de la identidad profesional, a partir de las narrativas de los docentes, así como los marcos teóricos. La investigación se desarrolló desde el enfoque cualitativo, como procedimiento central de investigación, se aplicaron cuestionarios y entrevistas a los sujetos de investigación, docentes. Para el análisis teórico se utilizó el método de análisis de contenido. Con el análisis de los datos recolectados, se puede decir que la identidad docente se da en un proceso vivo y evolutivo, el cual puede estar influenciado por factores internos y externos, así como por las relaciones en el contexto profesional, y puede ser más o menos duradero, dependiendo de las circunstancias en diferentes momentos y contextos.Neste artigo apresenta-se um recorte da pesquisa que investiga os processos identitários de professores da Educação Básica da rede pública Estadual de São Paulo. O desenvolvimento da pesquisa possibilitou a discussão sobre a constituição da identidade profissional docente, juntamente com um quadro teórico da temática.  Assim, o propósito deste artigo é apresentar as percepções dos professores em relação à docência e compreender como ocorre o processo da constituição da identidade profissional, a partir das narrativas dos professores, assim como dos quadros teóricos. A investigação se deu a partir da abordagem qualitativa, como procedimento central de investigação, foram realizados questionários e entrevistas aplicados aos sujeitos da pesquisa,  professores. Para análise teórica utilizou-se o método de análise de conteúdo.
