Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of adolescents in high school about risk factors for prevention of traffic accidents. Method: This is an analytical study with quantitative approach developed in a public school high school in a city of Sergipe. The sample accessibility consisted of 132 students. The instrument was developed based on an extensive search of the literature review and the Brazilian Traffic Code. Results: The school had being age 16 to 20 years, most were women, single, attending the third year of high school. A large proportion (35.6%) driving motor vehicles and that almost all had no national driving license and reported regular use of alcohol (21.3%). The average school of hits on the instrument consisting of 15 questions concerning knowledge of risk factors about traffic accidents was reduced (7.2). Conclusion: Young evaluated mostly showed little knowledge about the main risk factors for prevention of traffic accidents, and a large part already present real risk situation: the use of alcohol and lack of qualification that can contribute for occurrence thereof. Urges the intensification of educational measures to prevent the school and their families.
