The scientific community of lusophone analysts of social networks: which is the potential for collective action?

Summary: The development of a lusophone academic research in the field of SNA (Social Network Analysis) have experienced an important growth in this last decade, fact that we found in the meeting we have participated in Luso-Afro-Brazilian Conferences (in 2010, Salvador, Brazil) and the SUNBELT (realized in 2011 in Riva Del Garda, Italy). Therefore, we also found the fact that, despite the increase important in this research field, a true Scientific Community was not yet established: the participants do not know themselves, neither work together. The challenge we pose in this article is to explain how the interdependence between the lusophone SNA develops, and what the main variables are we can observe in the process that would explain us the absence of Institutionalization of this Scientific Community.

The challenge we pose in this article is to explain how the interdependence between the lusophone SNA develops, and what the main variables are we can observe in the process that would explain us the absence of Institutionalization of this Scientific Community.O crescimento dos estudos de redes sociais na comunidade lusófona tem experimentado um crescimento importante na última década, fato que constatamos nos encontros que realizamos com a comunidade acadêmica no Congresso Luso-Afro-Brasileiro (realizado em 2010, Salvador, Brasil) e SUNBELT (realizado em 2011, no Riva Del Garda, Itália).   Estes eventos têm revelado que os investigadores, salvo algumas exceções, não se conhecem, e não sendo uma comunidade cientifica no sentido de se relacionar, compartilhar ou cooperar, verificam-se manifestações de interesse em criar sinergias. O desafio que nos colocamos neste artigo foi o de olhar as estruturas de interdependência da ARS (Análise de Redes Sociais) lusófona do presente e refletir sobre o seu potencial de ação coletiva, isto é, a sua capacidade de desenvolver um projeto com objetivos comuns, de difundir e institucionalizar a ARS no meio científico. Questionamo-nos, por exemplo, por que é que ao longo destes últimos 20 anos a ARS lusófona não se institucionalizou? Que constrangimentos têm impedido o seu desenvolvimento mais vigoroso?
