Logistics is considered an important discipline for business administration since ancient times, nowadays remains an effective management in this sector remains indispensable, where the physical distribution of goods can be considered as the most important activity in the logistics sector due the representative contribution in the total logistic cost. The scope of this study is regarding waterways transportation modal specifically cabotage and inland river shipping. The main objective is to describe the challenges and improvements of Brazilian logistic at cabotage and inland river shipping in the transport network. The subject matter in question takes relevance due it is directly linked to Brazil economic development, as well as commercial competitiveness, knowing that Logistics in nowadays is a competitive differential for any organization seeking the development This study is focused to diagnose the current situation of the use of Brazilian cabotage services, and have as the specific objective show the evidences of its importance to better exploitation of this transport network and potential gain for Brazilian logistic, behind the challenges to promote the development of the sector, identifying the structural limitations and policies issues in our country. For this purpose, a qualitative research with descriptive approach, using collection secondary data available to the public as a books, articles, thesis, dissertations, electronic news and internet. As conclusion, is highlighted the underutilization of cabotage in the Brazilian transport network, however, evidences reflect economic and social benefits to the country based on better modal utilization, which even today faces several politics limitations as well as insufficient structural investments for the evolution of the sector.
