RESUMO Neste artigo, propomo-nos a apresentar e analisar o contexto histórico e as representações artísticas relacionadas ao sagrado do período Gupta. Este reino foi fundado por Chandra Gupta I, estima-se que no ano 3020 d.C. Posteriormente tornando-se império estendeu-se por grande parte do subcontinente indiano, onde várias cidades foram erigidas e avanços ocorreram principalmente na arte e literatura. Na sociedade preponderaram os sistemas das quatro varnas ou castas e verificamos uma forte presença do budismo. Esta é uma era conhecida como sendo de ouro. A arte deste período é classificada como clássica. A principal escola representante da arte Gupta foi a de Mathura, destacando-se pelo primor na técnica de estatuária com imagens belíssimas de Buda. ABSTRACT In this article, we propose to present and analyze the historical context and artistic representations related to the sacred Gupta period. This kingdom was founded by Chandra Gupta I, it is estimated that in the year 3020 A.D. Later becoming the empire extended over much of the Indian subcontinent, where several cities were erected and advances occurred mainly in art and literature. In society predominated systems of the four varnas, or castes and found a strong presence of Buddhism. This is an era known as gold. The art of this period is classified as classical.
