Resumo: A ocupação do solo tornou-se uma necessidade à partir do momento que o homem deixou de ser nômade e começou a fixar moradia, produzindo seu alimento e se organizando em pequenas aldeias. Este trabalho tem como objetivo maior, avaliar a redução da cobertura do solo pelo cerrado no município de Botucatu SP.desde 1962 até os dias atuais, utilizando-se para isto, fotografias aéreas e imagens de satélite, tendo-se constatado uma drástica redução dessa vegetação nativa no período considerado.

This work has as bigger target, to evaluate soil cover reduction by scrub in Botucatu county, SP, since 1962 until the actual days, utilizing for this, aerial pictures and satellite images.
