Fashion Communication Design: analysis of information consumption by Fashion Design students at a Brazilian university

Summary: Based on investigation in Design that develops a digital interface aimed at academic education in Fashion Design, this paper presents part of its exploratory phase. The objective of this paper is to analyze how Fashion Design students at the State University of Londrina consume Fashion content to identify opportunities for digital media to complement university education and prepare them for the professional market. The research method is based on literature review on the evolution of Fashion communication from the beginning to its current context and the application of a questionnaire with students and interviews with teachers. Answers from the first and fourth year are selected for comparison and the main comments from the interviews to support the discussion on the most important issues observed. Finally, it is discussed how communication between professors and students and the academic path can influence students’ search for fashion information. The paper results in expanding perspectives and possibilities for digital fashion communication media with educational resources that complement university education and assist students in the complex professional fashion system.

Basado en una investigación en Design que desarrolla una interfaz digital orientada a la enseñanza académica en Design de Moda, este artículo ofrece una visión general de su fase exploratoria. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar cómo los estudiantes de Diseño de Moda de la Universidad Estatal de Londrina consumen contenidos de Moda para identificar oportunidades de medios digitales con el fin de complementar la formación universitaria y prepararlos para el mercado profesional. El método de investigación se basa en una revisión bibliográfica sobre la evolución de la comunicación de la Moda desde sus inicios hasta su contexto actual y la aplicación de un cuestionario a estudiantes y entrevistas a profesores. Se seleccionan las respuestas del primer y cuarto año para compararlas y los principales comentarios de las entrevistas para apoyar la discusión sobre los temas más importantes observados. Finalmente, se discute cómo la comunicación entre profesores y estudiantes y el recorrido académico pueden influir en la búsqueda de información sobre Moda por parte de los estudiantes. El artículo resulta en ampliar perspectivas y posibilidades para los medios de comunicación digitales de Moda con recursos educativos que complementan la educación universitaria y ayudan a los estudiantes en el complejo sistema profesional de la Moda. A partir de uma pesquisa em Design que desenvolve uma interface digital direcionada ao ensino acadêmico de Design de Moda, este artigo traz um desdobramento de sua componente exploratória. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar como estudantes de Design de Moda da Universidade Estadual de Londrina consomem conteúdo de Moda para identificar oportunidades para os meios digitais de comunicação de forma a complementar o ensino universitário e prepará-los para o mercado profissional. O método da pesquisa parte de revisão de literatura sobre a evolução da comunicação de Moda desde o início até seu contexto atual e aplicação de questionário com estudantes e entrevistas com professoras. São selecionadas respostas do primeiro e quarto ano para comparação e os principais comentários das entrevistas para sustentar a discussão sobre as questões mais importantes observadas. Por fim é discutido como a comunicação entre professores e estudantes e o percurso acadêmico podem influenciar na procura por informação de Moda pelos estudantes.
