Circular economy, sustainability and fashion industry: a bibliometric analysis

Summary: The present study gravitates around the circular economy, sustainability and the fashion industry approach, with the scenario of concern for the environmental impacts resulting from the phenomenon of fast fashion. The aim of this study was to realize a bibliometrics analysis of the Circular Economy, sustainability, and the fashion industry. The research procedure used was bibliometrics, and the appropriate proportions were saved, it allowed us to map the state of the art concerning the international scientific production on Circular Economy and the fashion industry in the bibliographic data platform Scopus. The sample consisted of 81 papers published between 2016 and 2021, and, for analysis, the Bibliometrix was used. Through the results obtained, it was found that there is a trend of increase in publications on the subject in recent years. The studies investigated are similar to understanding the Circular Economy as a breakthrough for the fashion industry. The publications are conditioned to an optimistic scenario, with research and innovations that allow the overcoming of the fast fashion model and the adoption of sustainable and circular practices. It is therefore essential that the issue is increasingly discussed, not only in the business environment; but especially with the consumer market and society.

El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar un análisis bibliométrico acerca de la Economía Circular, la sostenibilidad y la industria de la moda. El procedimiento de investigación utilizado fue la bibliometría, y se guardaron las proporciones adecuadas, permitió mapear el estado del arte en relación con la producción científica internacional sobre Economía Circular y la industria de la moda en la plataforma de datos bibliográficos Scopus. La muestra consistió en 81 documentos publicados entre 2016 y 2021, y, para el análisis, se utilizó Bibliometrix. A través de los resultados obtenidos, se encontró que existe una tendencia de aumento en las publicaciones sobre el tema en los últimos años. Los estudios investigados son similares a entender la Economía Circular como un gran avance para la industria de la moda. Las publicaciones están condicionadas a un escenario optimista, con investigaciones e innovaciones que permitan la superación del modelo moda rápida y la adopción de prácticas sostenibles y circulares. Por lo tanto, es esencial que el tema se discuta cada vez más, no solo en el entorno empresarial, sino especialmente con el mercado de consumo y la sociedad.O presente estudo gravita em torno da abordagem da Economia Circular, sustentabilidade e a indústria da moda, tendo como cenário a preocupação com os impactos decorrentes do fenômeno do fast fashion. O objetivo consistiu em realizar uma análise bibliométrica acerca da economia circular, sustentabilidade e a indústria da moda. O procedimento de pesquisa utilizado foi a bibliometria, e, guardadas as devidas proporções, permitiu mapear o estado da arte em relação à produção científica internacional sobre Economia Circular e indústria da moda na plataforma de dados bibliográfico Scopus. A amostra foi composta por 81 documentos publicados entre os anos de 2016 e 2021 e, para a análise, foi utilizado o Bibliometrix. Por intermédio dos resultados obtidos, verificou-se que há uma tendência de aumento das publicações sobre o tema nos últimos anos. Os estudos investigados se assemelham ao compreenderem a Economia Circular como um avanço para a indústria da moda. As publicações condicionam-se para um cenário otimista, com pesquisas e inovações que permitam a ultrapassagem do modelo fast fashion e a adoção de práticas sustentáveis e circulares.
