Summary: The present article intends to identify the process of “choosing the legacy”, understood from the “receiving” moment of the gift cycle in Mauss theory, in people who are dedicated to the creation and maintenance of cultural institutions in a city in the interior of Minas Gerais. Interviews were conducted with three subjects, seeking to understand their life stories and their relationship with cultural processes. We identified that the choice process occurs from two moments: the first, from the act of “receiving” specific cultural activities in childhood, usually marked by figures of admiration and identification by the subject, and the second moment in early adulthood, in which the link with cultural processes is articulated with professional activities.

Se identificó que el proceso de elección se da a partir de dos momentos: el primero, desde el acto de “recibir” actividades culturales específicas en la infancia, generalmente marcadas por figuras de admiración e identificación por parte del sujeto, y el segundo momento en la edad adulta temprana, en que el vínculo con los procesos culturales se articula con la actividad profesional.O presente artigo pretende identificar o processo de “escolha do legado”, compreendido a partir do momento de “receber” do ciclo da dádiva na teoria de Mauss, em pessoas que se dedicam à criação e manutenção de instituições culturais em uma cidade do interior de Minas Gerais.
