Hospitality and social reintegration of convicted individuals

Summary: | This study addresses hospitality and the social reintegration of inmates. According to the APAC method, the objective is to investigate how hospitality manifests in the treatment of inmates at the Social Reintegration Center (SRC) in São Luís-Maranhão. Methodologically, this study is exploratory and descriptive, employing a qualitative approach. We collected data through semi-structured interviews with three SRC employees, considered here as “hosts”, and eight inmates. After transcription, the Content Analysis technique was applied to the interviews. The results indicate that SRC inmates and staff perceive hospitality in both tangible and intangible aspects. These elements were organized into the following dimensions: treatment with the residents; treatment with the family members; infrastructure and comfort; food; interaction; and services. 19 topics related to hospitality were identified. The employees perceived almost all these aspects, while the inmates emphasized elements related primarily to their treatment, the treatment of their families, and the food provided. The findings suggest the positive contribution of hospitality to the social reintegration process of incarcerated individuals. |

El objetivo es investigar cómo se manifiesta la hospitalidad en el tratamiento de encarcelados del Centro de Reinserción Social (CRS) en São Luís-Maranhão, de acuerdo con el método APAC. Metodológicamente, este trabajo es exploratorio y descriptivo, con un enfoque cualitativo. La recopilación de datos se realizó mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas a tres empleados del CRS, considerados aquí como “anfitriones”, y ocho encarcelados. Tras la transcripción, se aplicó la técnica de Análisis de Contenido. Los resultados indican que la hospitalidad es percibida en aspectos tangibles e intangibles tanto por los encarcelados como por los empleados del CRS. Estos elementos fueron organizados en las dimensiones de: tratamiento con los encarcelados; tratamiento con los familiares; infraestructura y conforto; alimentación; interacción; y servicios. Se identificaron 19 temas relacionados con la hospitalidad. Los empleados percibieron prácticamente todos estos aspectos, mientras que los encarcelados destacaron principalmente los elementos relacionados con su propio tratamiento, el tratamiento de sus familiares y la alimentación ofrecida. Los resultados señalan la contribución positiva de la hospitalidad en el proceso de reintegración social de las personas encarceladas.Este trabalho trata da hospitalidade e reintegração social de pessoas apenadas. O objetivo é investigar como a hospitalidade se manifesta no tratamento de recuperandos do Centro de Ressocialização Social (CRS), em São Luís, Maranhão, de acordo com o método APAC. Metodologicamente, este estudo é exploratório e descritivo, com abordagem qualitativa. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio da aplicação de roteiros semiestruturados com três funcionários do CRS, considerados aqui como “anfitriões” e oito recuperandos. Depois de transcritas as entrevistas, aplicou-se a técnica de Análise de Conteúdo. Os resultados indicaram que a hospitalidade é percebida em aspectos tangíveis e intangíveis por recuperandos e funcionários do CRS. Estes itens foram organizados nas dimensões: tratamento com os recuperandos; tratamento com os familiares; infraestrutura e conforto; alimentação; interação; e serviços. Foram identificados 19 tópicos ligados à hospitalidade. Os funcionários perceberam praticamente todos esses aspectos. Os recuperandos destacaram, principalmente, os elementos relacionados ao tratamento com eles e com seus familiares, e à alimentação oferecida.
