TYPE 1 DIABETES AND ANXIETY IN PEDIATRICS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Resumo: To identify studies in the literature that discuss the association between diabetes mellitus and anxiety in children and adolescents. This is an integrative review constructed by crossing the following Health Science Descriptors (DeCS/MeSH): "Diabetes Mellitus type 1"; "Anxiety"; "Adolescent"; "Child" and their English counterparts "Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus", "Anxiety", "Children", and "Adolescent". The terms were linked using the boolean indicators "and" or "e". Manuscripts published between 2019 and 2023 in Portuguese and English languages were considered. Twelve studies were included, which demonstrate the emotional distress experienced by children, adolescents, and their parents/caregivers in response to the demands imposed by type 1 diabetes mellitus. The review has shown that anxiety is present in both children/adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their parents, highlighting the importance of emotional support to cope with the demands imposed by this chronic condition.

Los términos fueron asociados utilizando los operadores booleanos "y" o "and". Se consideraron manuscritos publicados entre 2019 y 2023 en los idiomas portugués e inglés. Se incluyeron 12 estudios, los cuales evidencian el sufrimiento emocional de niños y adolescentes, así como de sus padres/cuidadores, en respuesta a las demandas impuestas por la diabetes mellitus tipo 1. La revisión mostró que la ansiedad está presente tanto en niños/adolescentes con DM1 como en sus padres, resaltando la importancia del apoyo emocional para hacer frente a las demandas impuestas por esta enfermedad crónica.Identificar, na literatura, estudos que discorrem sobre a associação entre diabetes mellitus e ansiedade em crianças/adolescentes. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa construída por meio do cruzamento dos seguintes Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS/MeSH): “Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1”; “Ansiedade”; “Adolescente”; “Criança” e seus correspondentes em inglês “Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus”, “Anxiety”, “Children” and “Adolescent”. Os termos foram associados por intermédio dos indicadores booleanos “e” ou “and”. Consideraram-se manuscritos publicados entre 2019 e 2023, nos idiomas português e inglês. Foram incluídos 12 estudos, os quais evidenciam o sofrimento emocional de crianças e adolescentes e seus pais/cuidadores em resposta às demandas exigidas pelo diabetes mellitus tipo 1, sendo mais pronunciado no período da pandemia COVID-19.
