Jair: The ‘Messias?’ Building a “country savior” identity

Summary: In this article, we analyze the identity construction of Jair Bolsonaro’s discourse in the live of 29 July, 2021, whose main theme was the presentation of evidence about fraud in Brazilian elections and the consequent need to adopt the printed vote, called auditable vote. We based the analysis in the categories of identities in Fairclough (2003): evaluation, modality and metaphor. The analysis points out that the president builds his identity as “Country Savior”, placing himself as a martyr for the good of the Brazilian people, while creating an image of his opponents as corrupt and willing to rig the elections to establish a communist government in Brazil.

Para fazer a análise, utilizamos como base as categorias do significado identificacional de Fairclough (2003): avaliação, modalidade e metáfora.
