PELVIC EXENTERATION AND ITS REPERCUSSION ON FEMALE SEXUALITY

Resumo: Cancer is a public health problem in Brazil and worldwide. For women, cancers of the colon and rectum, cervix, ovary and body of the uterus are among the 10 most common. Treatment can include surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Among the surgical modalities, pelvic exenteration (PE) is a challenging procedure that can bring changes to sexuality. In order to contribute to a reflection on the subject, an integrative literature review was carried out with the aim of identifying the repercussions of this procedure on women's sexuality. The following databases were consulted: BVS, IBECS and MEDLINE, using the descriptors Pelvic Exenteration, Sexuality, Female and Psychology. 106 studies were found and six were selected. The articles deal with the physical, psychological and sexual repercussions of PE. Through the results, the discussion was divided into four categories, showing that PE brings changes in various areas of life, developing physical, psychological and sexual symptoms. The study achieved its aim and the results highlight the effects of this procedure on patients' lives. It is therefore important to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care before and after PE, in order to cover all needs during treatment.

En el caso de las mujeres, los cánceres de colon y recto, cuello uterino, ovario y cuerpo del útero figuran entre los 10 más frecuentes. El tratamiento puede incluir cirugía, quimioterapia y/o radioterapia. Entre las modalidades quirúrgicas, la exenteración pélvica (EP) es un procedimiento difícil que puede provocar cambios en la sexualidad. Para contribuir a la reflexión sobre el tema, se realizó una revisión bibliográfica integradora con el objetivo de identificar las repercusiones de este procedimiento en la sexualidad de las mujeres. Se consultaron las siguientes bases de datos: BVS, IBECS y MEDLINE, utilizando los descriptores Pelvic Exenteration, Sexuality, Female y Psychology. Se encontraron 106 estudios y se seleccionaron seis. Los artículos tratan de las repercusiones físicas, psicológicas y sexuales de la EP. A través de los resultados, la discusión fue dividida en cuatro categorías, mostrando que la EP trae cambios en diversas áreas de la vida, desarrollando síntomas físicos, psicológicos y sexuales. La investigación alcanzó el objetivo propuesto y los resultados destacan los efectos de este procedimiento en la vida de los pacientes. Por lo tanto, es importante proporcionar una atención integral y multidisciplinar antes y después de la PE, para que todas las necesidades puedan ser atendidas durante el tratamiento.O câncer é um problema de saúde pública no Brasil e no mundo. Entre as modalidades cirúrgicas, a exenteração pélvica (EP) é um procedimento desafiador, que pode trazer modificações na sexualidade. Com o intuito de contribuir para uma reflexão da temática, realizou-se uma revisão integrativa de literatura com o objetivo de identificar as repercussões desse procedimento na sexualidade nas mulheres. Consultou-se as bases de dados: BVS, IBECS e MEDLINE, utilizando descritores Exenteração Pélvica, Sexualidade, Feminino e Psicologia. Foram encontrados 106 estudos, sendo selecionados seis. Os artigos abordam as repercussões físicas, psicológicas e sexuais da EP. Através dos resultados a discussão foi dividida em quatro categorias, constatando que a EP traz alterações em diversos âmbitos da vida, desenvolvendo sintomas físicos, psicológicas e sexuais. A pesquisa alcançou o objetivo proposto e os resultados encontrados ressaltam os efeitos desse procedimento na vida das pacientes.
