Summary: A brief synthesis of the genesis and performance of the “Sociedade Archeologica Lusitana”, founded in Setúbal in 1849, is presented, highlighting several aspects of the archaeological excavations in Troia between 1850 and 1856 and several setbacks with which he then encountered, based on correspondence up to the present unpublished currently conserved in the Historical Archive of the Ministry of Public Works.
