Arquitetura Industrial no contexto urbano: reabilitação da antiga moagem de Faro

A antiga Fábrica da Moagem, situada na cidade de Faro, está implantada junto á Estação Ferroviária á beira da Ria Formosa. O complexo industrial, fundado no início do século XX, pertenceu inicialmente á Companhia Industrial do Algarve, cujas características industriais do quarteirão são bem presentes na sua arquitectura. Atualmente encontra-se num avançado estado de degradação e com um alto nível de poluição, o que se traduz como uma problemática na ligação entre a zona histórica e a parte «nova» da cidade, na imagem da cidade e sobretudo no desaparecimento de um património singular que marca a identidade e memoria daquele lugar. Esta investigação passa pelo estudo da arquitectura industrial cujos exemplares refletem a imponência no tecido urbano das cidades e á diferença de escalas em relação ao envolvente: pelo estudo aprofundado da antiga Fábrica de Moagem no seu contexto territorial e urbano, pela sua evolução histórica e morfológica a par com a cidade e, simultaneamente, pela análise da organização espacial e das características arquitetónicas. Foi igualmente realizada uma análise de abordagens e intervenções relacionadas com a reutilização do património como parte do processo de salvaguarda. Numa tentativa de valorização da antiga fábrica e da cidade, tendo em consideração o lugar, é proposta uma estratégia urbana baseada na intervenção do edifício e na sua envolvente; ABSTRACT: Industrial Architecture in Urban Context: Rehabilition of old milling industry in Faro The old Grinding Factory, located in Faro, is implanted next to the train station by the Ria Formosa. The industrial complex, founded at the beginning of the 20th century, inicially belonged to the Algarve's Industrial Company, whose industrial block characteristics are very present in its architecture. Currently, it's in an advanced state of degradation and with a high level of pollution, which translates as a problem in the connection between the historic and the new area of the city, in the city's own image and especially in the disappearance of a singular heritage that marks the place's identity and memory. This investigation involves the industrial architecture study whose specimens reflect the importance of the cities' urban fabric and the scales difference in relation to the surroundings: for the in-depth study of the old Grinding Factory in its territorial and urban context, for its historical and morphological evolution along with the city and, simultaneously, by analyzing spatial organization and architectural characteristics. An approaches and interventions analysis related to the heritage reuse was also carried out as part of the safeguard process. In an attempt to enhance the old factory and the city, taking into consideration the place, an urban strategy is proposed based on the building intervention and its surroundings.
