A presente abordagem aprecia o mosteiro cisterciense de S. Bento de Cástris enquanto instituição que testemunhou os desígnios tridentinos em Portugal, enfatizando os seus reflexos na liturgia e na prática musical do mosteiro, objecto da investigação em curso pela equipa multidisciplinar do Projecto FCT EXPL/EPH-PAT/2253/2013, Projecto ORFEUS - A Reforma tridentina e a música no silêncio claustral: o mosteiro de S. Bento de Cástris. Esses reflexos, plasmados em diferentes suportes, são tratados especialmente no que respeita ao património documental legado pela instituição, aí considerando os testemunhos musicais. Partiu-se para a sua análise considerando o contexto da Contra-reforma católica (dando particular ênfase às questões da música e do canto enquanto essenciais para a inteligibilidade da palavra divina, reflectindo a preocupação com a compreensão dos textos), particularizando o espólio do mosteiro eborense enquanto expressão das identidades nacional e local. Desta forma, pretende-se sublinhar a importância de um quadro de reflexão que permite a percepção da complexidade, riqueza e diversidade das relações entre a música e as reformas religiosas no período moderno, cruzando perspectivas de análise que só uma abordagem interdisciplinar permite. Title Ora et Labora in the Cistercian monastery of St. Benedict of Castris in post-Tridentine context: from the monastic daily life to festive occasions Abstract This approach appreciates the Cistercian monastery of St. Benedict of Castris as an institution that witnessed the Tridentine designs in Portugal, emphasizing their reflections in the liturgy and musical practice in this monastery, goal of the ongoing research subject by the multidisciplinary team of the Project FCT EXPL/EPH-PAT/2253/2013 ORFEUS Project – The Tridentine reform and the music in the silence of the cloister: the monastery of S. Bento de Cástris. These reflections, embodied in different supports, are specially treated with regard to documental heritage from the institution, considering especially the musical testimonies. We started to its analysis considering the context of the Catholic Counter-Reformation (with particular emphasis on issues of music and song as essential to the intelligibility of the divine word, reflecting the concern for the understanding of the texts), selecting only the estate of the monastery Évora as an expression of national and local identities. Thus, it is intended to stress the importance of a framework for discussion that allows the perception of the complexity and diversity of the relations between music and religious reforms in the modern period, crossing analytical perspectives that only an multidisciplinary approach allows.
