It is crucial to build sustainable smart cities that prioritize the use of soft modes of mobility, like bicycles, electric scooters, or by walk, while pollutant vehicles are just supplementary. This type of mobility can help cities prevent excessive emissions of toxic gases caused by traffic jams, a problem which contributes to air and noise pollution, and, consequently, to the reduction of quality of life and public health within the city. When it comes to short trips, typical of the city environment, soft modes of mobility are considered a sustainable alternative to the use of private cars, which has motivated a significant growing adoption and investment by municipalities around big cities of the world. The city of Lisbon, the focus of this study, is not an exception. Over the last few years, the bike lanes networks have grown, and the public bike-sharing system continues expanding in the number of city zones covered, and in the number of users. During this study, the capital of Portugal will be analysed through the bicycle counts within the city, the traffic alerts notified, and the air quality and noise pollution in different location points of the city. The study will allow researchers and political figures to comprehend the importance of soft mobility modes within an urban centre and, also, comprehend better the Lisbon reality in this subject.
