Introdução: As interações que ocorrem influenciam aquilo que somos e como nos comportamos. Uma vez que a família é o contexto primordial onde se estabelecem as primeiras relações precoces, este estudo pretende compreender a relação entre algumas variáveis familiares e o funcionamento psicológico de estudantes universitários. Objetivos: 1) estudar a associação entre estilos educativos parentais, psicopatologia, visão positiva/negativa das emoções, vinculação e funcionamento familiar; 2) analisar as diferenças nas variáveis em função do sexo; pai ser ou não significativo; a qualidade da relação com o pai; e viver com a família sempre versus aos fins-de-semana; 3) verificar se os estilos educativos parentais, a vinculação, a visão positiva/negativa das emoções, e a psicopatologia predizem o funcionamento familiar. Metodologia: A amostra é constituída por 356 estudantes universitários, 83 homens e 273 mulheres, com uma média de idades de 21,75 anos (DP=5,35), sendo a maioria solteiros (94,4%). Os participantes preencheram um protocolo constituído por: Questionário Sociodemográfico; Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour; Brief Symptom Inventory; Leahy Emotional Schemas Scale; Systemic Clinical Outcome and Routine Evaluation; e Adult Attachment Scale-R. Resultados: Verificaram-se correlações estatisticamente significativa entre todas as variáveis do estudo e a grande maioria das suas dimensões, o que nos levou a realizar regressões lineares múltiplas, em que os estilos educativos parentais, a psicopatologia e a vinculação predizem o funcionamento familiar. Foram encontradas diferenças em todas as variáveis, em função do sexo dos sujeitos e da qualidade da relação com o pai. Face ao pai ser considerado uma figura significativa, apenas se destacam diferenças nos estilos educativos parentais e no funcionamento familiar. Por fim, foram encontradas diferenças na vinculação em função dos sujeitos residirem sempre com a família versus apenas aos fins-de-semana. Discussão e Conclusão: Os resultados vêm realçar a forte relação entre os estilos educativos parentais, a vinculação e a psicopatologia e o papel preditivo destas variáveis ao nível do funcionamento familiar. Fica então evidenciada a importância que estes fatores têm no funcionamento geral da família, sublinhando-se a necessidade de elaborar programas de prevenção da saúde mental que tenham em atenção estes dados. / Introduction: The interactions that occur influence what we are and how we behave. Since the family is the primordial context in which the first early relationships are established, this study intends to understand the relationship between some family variables and the psychological functioning of university students. Objectives: 1) to study the association between parental rearing styles, psychopathology, positive / negative perspective of the emotions, attachment and family functioning; 2) analyze the differences in the variables according to gender; father is significant or not; the quality of the relationship with the father; and to always live with the family versus the weekends; 3) to verify if parental rearing styles, attachment, positive / negative view of emotions, and psychopathology predict family functioning. Methodology: The sample consisted of 356 university students, 83 men and 273 women, with a mean age of 21.75 years (SD = 5.35), most of whom were single (94.4%). Participants completed a protocol composed of: Sociodemographic Questionnaire; Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour; Brief Symptom Inventory; Leahy Emotional Schemas Scale; Systemic Clinical Outcome and Routine Evaluation; and Adult Attachment Scale-R. Results: Statistically significant correlations were found between all the study variables and the vast majority of their dimensions, which led us to perform multiple linear regressions, in which parental rearing styles, psychopathology and attachment, predict family functioning. Differences were found in all variables, depending on the gender of the subjects and the quality of the relationship with the father. Faced with the father being considered a significant figure, only differences in parental rearing styles and family functioning stand out. Finally, differences in attachment were found depending if the subjects always lived with the family versus only at weekends. Discussion and Conclusion: The results highlight the strong relationship between parental rearing styles, attachment and psychopathology, and the predictive role of these variables in the family functioning. It is then emphasized the relevance of these factors in the overall family functioning, stressing the need to develop mental health prevention programs that have in mind this data.
