Este trabalho insere-se no âmbito da experimentação sobre a poda em olivais em sebe, realizado pela ELAIA SA, em parceria com a Universidade Politécnica de Madrid. O trabalho decorreu em duas parcelas de olival, uma da variedade Arbequina e outra da variedade Arbosana. Para esta dissertação consideraram-se as seguintes modalidades de poda: tratamento 1 - poda mecânica com corte horizontal e cortes laterias em ambas as faces da copa, seguida de poda manual de complemento; tratamento 2 - poda mecânica com corte horizontal da copa e corte lateral na face exposta a nascente, seguida de poda manual de complemento; tratamento 3 - poda mecânica com corte horizontal da copa e corte lateral na face exposta a poente, seguido de complemento manual. Avaliou-se: dimensão das árvores, lenha retirada pela poda, a porosidade da copa, a produção e maturação de azeitona As diferentes opções de poda utilizadas neste ensaio não revelaram diferenças significativas, quer ao nível da produção de azeitona, quer no rendimento em gordura. Os resultados mostraram que as árvores de Arbequina tendem a ser maiores, com maior precocidade na maturação da azeitona, embora a variedade Arbosana tenda a ser mais produtiva. Atendendo à facilidade e custo de execução da poda e produção obtida, deverá optar-se pelo tratamento 2, implementando uma rotação das intervenções de poda para que em cada ano apenas seja podada 50% da área de olival; Abstract: Contribution to the Evaluation of the Use of Mechanical Pruning in Olive Groves in Hedge This work is part of the experiment on pruning hedged olive groves, carried out by ELAIA SA, in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The work took place in two olive groves, one of the Arbequina variety and the other of the Arbosana variety. For this dissertation, the following pruning modalities were considered: treatment 1 - mechanical pruning with horizontal cut and lateral cuts on both sides of the crown, followed by manual pruning of complement; treatment 2 - mechanical pruning with horizontal cutting of the crown and lateral cutting on the face exposed to the east, followed by manual pruning as a complement; treatment 3 - mechanical pruning with horizontal cutting of the crown and lateral cutting on the face exposed to the west, followed by manual complement. The following were evaluated: tree size, firewood removed by pruning, canopy porosity, olive production and maturation The different pruning options used in this test did not reveal significant differences, either in terms of olive production or fat yield. The results showed that Arbequina trees tend to be larger, with earlier olive maturation, although the Arbosana variety tends to be more productive. Given the easier and lower cost of pruning and the obtained production, treatment 2 should be chosen, implementing a rotation of pruning interventions so that only 50% of the olive grove area is pruned each year.
