A literatura tem também indicado que a regulação emocional é um fator importante das experiências de vergonha e saúde psicológica, e que pode ser moldada pelas orientações de vinculação. A autocompaixão e a tolerância ao distress são processos de regulação emocional que têm sido associados positivamente a vários resultados psicológicos. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste estudo foi examinar o efeito mediador destes processos de regulação emocional na associação entre as orientações de vinculação e a vergonha, numa amostra de 110 pessoas a viver com o VIH (M = 41.68 anos, 52.7% do sexo masculino). Os resultados dos modelos de mediação múltipla revelaram que a autocompaixão mediou a associação entre a ansiedade relacionada com a vinculação e a vergonha externa (b = 0.33, IC 95% [0.10, 0.63]), e o evitamento e a vergonha externa (b = 0.15, IC 95% [0.03, 0.33]). Estes resultados sugerem que a ansiedade e o evitamento relacionados com a vinculação podem predispor as pessoas que vivem com o VIH a maiores experiências de vergonha, sendo que a autocompaixão (especificamente, uma menor capacidade para ser autocompassivo) é um dos potenciais mecanismos que explica esta associação. Estes resultados são novos no contexto da infeção pelo VIH e fornecem uma evidência importante de que as pessoas que vivem com esta doença poderão beneficiar de intervenções psicológicas baseadas na autocompaixão para diminuir o impacto negativo da vinculação insegura nas experiências de vergonha.The literature has consistently shown that living with HIV infection can be associated with a significant experience of shame. The literature has also demonstrated that emotion regulation is an important factor of individuals’ experience of shame and psychological health, which may be shaped by their attachment orientations. Self-compassion and distress tolerance are emotion regulation processes that have been positively associated with several psychological outcomes. Thus, the objective of the present study was to examine the mediating effect of these emotion regulation processes on the association between attachment orientations and shame in a sample of 110 individuals living with HIV (M = 41.68 years, 52.7% male). The results of the two mediation models revealed that self-compassion mediated the association between attachment-related anxiety and external shame (b = 0.33, 95% CI [0.10, 0.63]), and attachment-related avoidance and external shame (b = 0.15, 95% CI [0.03, 0.33]). These results suggested that attachment-related anxiety and avoidance may predispose people living with HIV to the experience of shame, with self-compassion (specifically, a lower ability to be self-compassionate) being one of the potential mechanisms that explain this association.
