A obstrução uretral em gatos, que integra o síndrome urológico felino, é uma doença grave que afeta o sistema urinário inferior. É comum em gatos machos e pode ser fatal se não for tratada imediatamente. Ocorre quando cristais minerais, sedimentos ou plugs mucosos bloqueiam a uretra, impedindo a passagem da urina. O que conduz a dor intensa, incapacidade de urinar e acumulação de toxinas no organismo. Trata-se de uma emergência médica e requer atendimento imediato. O tratamento envolve analgesia, a remoção do bloqueio da uretra, reidratação através de fluidoterapia intravenosa e tratamento de infeções subjacentes. Na prevenção deve mantida uma dieta adequada, fornecer acesso constante a água fresca, promover a atividade física e garantir que o gato tenha acesso regular à caixa de areia limpa. Pode ser recomendada uma alteração de dieta ou suplementos para ajudar a prevenir a ocorrência/recidiva de obstrução uretral; Clínic and surgery in small animals Abstract: Urethral obstruction in cats, that integrates the feline lower urinary tract disease, is a serious medical condition that affects the lower urinary system. It can be potentially fatal if not immediately treated. Occurs when mineral crystals, sediment or mucus plugs block the urethra, preventing the passage of urine. This can lead to severe pain, inability to expel urine and build up of toxins in the body. Is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention. Treatment involves analgesia, removing the urethral blockage, rehydrating through intravenous fluid therapy and treating underlying infections. To prevent it shoud be maintained a proper diet, provide constant access to fresh water, promote physical activity and ensure the cat has regular access to a clean litter box. A diet change in diet, may be recommended, or a variety of supplements may help prevent urethral obstruction from occurring/relapse.
