De facto, os jovens são aqueles que mais tentam estar sempre conectados ao telemóvel, mesmo em locais como o meio escolar. O telemóvel tem vantagens e desvantagens. Este dispositivo dá segurança e é uma boa ferramenta de trabalho e organização. Por outro lado, pode conduzir ao isolamento, não promover autonomia e pode ainda facilitar o cyberbullying. A decisão de interditar a utilização do telemóvel por parte das Direções das escolas não é consensual.Objetivos: O objetivo desta investigação foi, numa amostra de Encarregados de Educação, saber a sua opinião acerca do uso do telemóvel pelos seus educandos em meio escolar.Materiais e Métodos: Uma amostra de Encarregados de Educação de adolescentes que frequentam o 7º-12º anos de escolaridade de 8 escolas públicas portuguesas responderam ao questionário “Uso de telemóvel em meio escolar – a opinião dos Pais”. Este questionário foi criado na plataforma Google Forms para este estudo e foi distribuído por e-mail pela Associação de Pais ou Diretor de Turma. Os dados recolhidos foram analisados, utilizando o programa SPSS, versão 25.Resultados: A análise dos resultados permitiu saber que 68,2% dos 267 Encarregados de Educação inquiridos considera que o seu educando usa excessivamente o seu telemóvel, mas apenas 38,8% concordaria com a proibição do mesmo em meio escolar nos intervalos/horas livres. Existe uma correlação positiva e significativa entre o ano escolar e a utilização do telemóvel para telefonar (r=.158; p<.001), enviar mensagens (r=.214; p<.001) e para redes sociais (r=.265; p<.001). Uma correlação negativa e significativa foi encontrada entre o ano escolar e a aplicação da proibição do uso do telemóvel nos intervalos (r=-.138; p<.05).Discussão e Conclusão: O uso excessivo do telemóvel está a tornar-se um problema comum da atualidade, especialmente durante a adolescência, que traz como possíveis consequências o phubbing, o smombie, o isolamento, a depressão, o cyberbullying, entre outras. Apesar de grande parte dos Encarregados de Educação referir que os seus educandos utilizam excessivamente o telemóvel, isto não significa que estes concordem com a proibição da utilização do mesmo nos intervalos/espaços de recreio. Assim, será importante pensar em alternativas, como por exemplo implementar regras de utilização e promoção de atividades lúdicas durante os intervalos.Introduction: Over the years, mobile phones have evolved, and their use has become widespread. Of all people, youngsters are the ones who try to stay connected at all times, even in places where that would not be expected, such as schools. The mobile phone improves people’s sense of security, and can serve as a school organization tool, thereby constituting an indispensable device. However, it can lead to less socialization, facilitate cyberbullying and jeopardize autonomy. As such, the decision by School Boards to ban its use is not consensual.Objectives: The aim of this research was to, in a sample comprised of parents, know their opinion regarding the use of mobile phones by their adolescents in the school environment.Materials and methods: A sample of parents of adolescents attending the 7th-12th grade in 8 portuguese public schools answered the questionnaire “Cell phone use in school – Parents’ opinion”. This questionnaire was created for this purpose and it was distributed by e-mail by the Parents’ Association or Class Director. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS program (25th version).Results: The analysis of the results showed that 68,2% of the 267 parents studied consider that their adolescent uses their cell phone excessively. But only 38,8% would agree with the prohibition in school during breaks. There is a positive and significant correlation between the school year and the use of mobile phones to make calls (r=.158; p<.001), send messages (r=.214; p<.001) and for social networks (r=.265; p<.001). A negative and significant correlation was found between the school year and the agreement to a ban during breaks (r=¬-.138; p<.05).Discussion and Conclusion: Nowadays, excessive cell phone use is becoming a common problem, especially during youth. This huge problem can bring nefarious consequences such as phubbing, smombie, isolation, depression, cyberbullying, among others. Although most parents recognize that their adolescents use the mobile phone excessively, this does not mean that they agree with a ban during the time between classes.
