Les registres du Service de santé de la Province rélèvent 11324 cas de malades annuellement (moyenne de 1945 à 1954); cependant le chifre réel des impaludes est sans doute beaucoup plus et doit atteindre, à la lumière des enquêtes recentes, environ 50% de la population insulaire, qui comprend en tout 150000 âmes. Selon le même Service de Santé le nombre annuel moyen de morts par malaria fût de 279 entre 1945 et 1954.A málaria é o principal problema de saúde pública em cabo Verde. Os registros de Serviço Provincial de Saúde registram 11324 casos de doença anualmente (média de 1945 a 1954); no entanto, o número real de doentes de malária é, sem dúvida, muito superior e deve atingir, à luz de pesquisas recentes, cerca de 50% da população da ilha, que compreende um total de 150000 almas.
