História da UNITA: da fundação ao Acordo de Alvor (1966-1975)

A memória histórica relativa à UNITA continua refém de narrativas construídas durante a Guerra Fria. Por um lado, o movimento é apresentado como uma organização sem dinâmicas internas, instrumentalizado pelos interesses do Ocidente e pelas forças reacionárias da África Branca. Por outro, existe uma narrativa de legitimação da organização em função da sua luta contra a influência soviética e cubana na África Austral. Estas retóricas competitivas tendem a deixar de parte o que foi a fase formativa desta organização: a do seu passado como movimento anticolonial. Historiograficamente, o percurso do Galo Negro tem sido analisado de forma tematicamente desequilibrada, com abordagens que favorecem a sua trajetória pós-colonial no enquadramento da Guerra Civil de Angola. Este estudo procura preencher essa lacuna, e elaborar uma narrativa histórica cognitiva da UNITA com base num guião construtivista, desde a sua Fundação (1966) ao Acordo de Alvor (1975), na qual se articulem num todo consistente e coerente as dinâmicas das várias dimensões do seu percurso anticolonial na Guerra de Libertação de Angola. O roteiro de fontes deste estudo alicerça-se fundamentalmente em três tipologias documentais: relatórios elaborados pelos serviços de informação portugueses relativamente aos movimentos independentistas angolanos, baseados numa rede de espionagem regional; materiais produzidos pela estrutura da UNITA durante a luta armada, quer da vertente externa (exílio), quer da vertente interna (guerrilha); ego-documentos que transparecem a trajetória individual de atores históricos, quer sejam coevos (declarações/autos, diários e correspondência) ou produzidos à posteriori (memórias e autobiografias); The History of UNITA: From the Foundation to the Alvor Agreement (1966-1975) Abstract: The historical memory of UNITA remains hostage to narratives constructed during the Cold War. On the one hand, the movement is portrayed as an organization without internal dynamism, instrumentalized by Western interests and white African reactionary forces. On the other hand, there is a narrative that legitimizes the organization as the result of its struggle against Soviet and Cuban influence in Southern Africa. These competing narratives tend to overlook the crucial phase of this organization: its past as an anti-colonial movement. Historiographically, the trajectory of the Galo Negro has been analyzed in a thematically unbalanced manner, favoring postcolonial development in the context of the civil war in Angola. This study attempts to fill this gap by using a constructivist approach to develop a cognitive historical account of UNITA from its founding (1966) to the Alvor Accord (1975) and to present the dynamics of the different dimensions of its anti-colonial trajectory in the Angolan liberation war. The sources used in this study rely mainly on three types of documents: Portuguese intelligence reports on the Angolan independence movements, based on a regional spy network; material produced by the UNITA structure during the armed struggle, both external (exile) and internal (guerrilla); first-person documents that reveal the individual trajectories of historical actors, whether contemporary (declarations, diaries, and correspondence) or produced after the fact (memoirs and autobiographies).
