Summary: Objectives: Review on the intervention of primary care doctors in providing home medical care for patients with palliative needs. Methods: Integrative literature review conducted in June 2021 in MEDLINE/Pubmed, ISI Web of Knowledge, Evidence based Medicine online (BMJ) and Cochrane databases. Results: Eight articles were included and a thematic division of their conclusions was carried out: end-of-life care and death at home in relation to the availability of primary health care; the view of the patient and the family doctor regarding the place where palliative care is provided; skills that family doctors should develop to provide palliative care; experience of primary health care professionals in providing palliative home care; and the importance of establishing clinical guidelines for the provision of home palliative care. Conclusion: Family doctors play a key role in the follow-up and guidance of patients with chronic, serious and life-threatening health conditions.

Métodos: Revisão integrativa da literatura e pesquisa bibliográfica realizada no mês de Junho de 2021 nas bases de dados MEDLINE/Pubmed, ISI Web of Knowledge, Evidence based Medicine online (BMJ) e Cochrane. Resultados: Foram incluídos 8 artigos e realizada uma divisão temática das suas conclusões: os cuidados de fim de vida e a morte domiciliária em relação à disponibilidade de cuidados de saúde primários; a visão do doente e do médico de família quanto ao local de prestação de cuidados paliativos; competências que os médicos de família devem desenvolver para a prestação de cuidados paliativos; experiência dos profissionais dos cuidados de saúde primários na prestação de cuidados paliativos domiciliários; e importância do estabelecimento de normas de orientação clínica para a prestação de cuidados paliativos domiciliários.
