Renewable energy policies: the case of feed-in tariffs on renewable energy deployment

Resumo: In recent years, renewable energy support policies such as Feed-in Tariffs have gained momentum worldwide. This study uses panel data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of Feed-in Tariff policies on renewable energy deployment, utilizing a comprehensive global sample of 181 countries spanning from 2002 to 2019. The findings reveal that the policy positively affects high-income countries but negatively impacts low-income countries. A distinctive feature of this study is the examination of the role of governance in determining the policy’s divergent effectiveness. The results indicate that good governance enhances the policy’s effect while poor governance diminishes it.
