O estágio curricular, objeto de análise na primeira parte deste trabalho, decorreu no Hospital Veterinário do Restelo e no Hospital Veterinário de Molins. Procede-se à descrição estatística de toda a casuística de medicina preventiva, patologia médica e patologia cirúrgica acompanhada durante o estágio. Os canídeos foram a espécie que registou maior número de ocorrências (79%) e a gastroenterologia e a oftalmologia as áreas dentro da patologia médica com maior representatividade. O trabalho inclui também uma monografia sobre fibrilhação atrial no cão, a arritmia persistente mais comum nesta espécie que leva à contração dessincronizada dos átrios e dos ventrículos, com consequente prejuízo hemodinâmico. A fibrilhação atrial pode ser classificada como primária, se ocorre espontaneamente, ou secundária se é consequência de outras afeções do miocárdio, subjacentes. As abordagens terapêuticas passam pelo controlo do ritmo ou da frequência cardíaca. A revisão bibliográfica é ilustrada por um caso clínico acompanhado durante o estágio; ### ABSTRACT: SMALL ANIMAL INTERNAL MEDICINE AND SURGERY CANINE ATRIAL FIBRILLATION The curricular traineeship object of analysis in the first part of this work took place at the Restelo Veterinary Hospital and at the Molins Veterinary Hospital. It’s made a statistical description of the entire casuistry of preventive medicine, medical and surgical pathology accompanied during the internship. Canines were the specie with the greater number of occurrences (79 %) and the gastroenterology and the ophthalmology were the areas within the medical pathology with greater representativeness. The work also includes a monograph on atrial fibrillation in dogs, the most common persistent arrhythmia in this specie that leads to desynchronised contraction of atria and ventricles, with consequent hemodynamic impairment. The atrial fibrilation can be classified as primary, if occurs spontaneously, or secondary if it’s a consequence of underlying myocardial disease. The therapeutic approaches consist in rhythm or heart rate control. The literature review is illustrated by a clinical case accompanied during the internship.
