Conhecimentos, atitudes e comportamentos face ao VIH numa comunidade migrante: Implicações para a intervenção

A situação do VIH/SIDA em Portugal tem vindo a agravar-se nos últimos anos, encontrando-se notificados um total de 18995 casos de infecção de VIH/SIDA sendo os emigrantes reconhecidos como um grupo particularmente vulnerável a esta problemática de saúde. Esta investigação teve como principal objectivo compreender os conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas de uma comunidade africana face à problemática VIH/SIDA. O estudo foi efectuado em 66 indivíduos com idade superior a 15 anos residentes numa comunidade migrante da área da grande Lisboa. Os dados foram recolhidos através da realização de 8 entrevistas colectivas a indivíduos distribuídos por diferentes grupos segundo o sexo e o grupo etário. Os resultados sugerem a existência de diferenças entre géneros, relativamente aos conhecimentos, atitudes e comportamentos relevantes à prevenção de VIH/SIDA. Os dados apontam no sentido de um aumento do reconhecimento dos factores psicossociais e culturais no comportamento individual e de grupo. Pretende-se com os resultados obtidos contribuir para inferir sobre as interacções entre os factores que intervêm na adopção de comportamentos sexuais relevantes na problemática do VIH, e deste modo contribuir para o estabelecimento de estratégias de intervenção preventivas e para o desenvolvimento de políticas de Promoção de Saúde nestas comunidades. ------ ABSTRACT ------ The AIDS and HIV infection rates in Portugal are growing in the past years. There is increasing recognition that migrants may be more vulnerable than local population to acquiring the infection. The purpose of this study was to explore AIDS related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in a migrant community near Lisbon. The participants of this study were 66, aged 15 or older. Data was obtained from 8 group interviews, groups being selected by aged and sex. The results indicate a gender difference regarding AIDS related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours. The results highlight the impact of psychosocialand cultural factors in the individual and group behaviour. These findings are discussed in terms of the relevance to adopting preventive behaviours and the implications of research results in the design of culturally appropriate strategies to promote sexual health focused to these communities.
