Summary: This study focuses on teachers' motivation for using video contents within a Higher Education Institution - University of Porto U.Porto) - as well as their perception on the advantages and disadvantages of using this medium. In order to better understand if, how and why video is used, teachers were divided into two different groups. Group A, sampled from the known universe of teachers that use video in their classes; and group B, whose members have attended training actions (at the university) on the subjects of video but have not used video ever since. Given that peer pressure could affect group dynamics and provide biased responses, individual interviews were conducted to all members of both groups following a semi-structured protocol. Data revealed insights on why teachers use video and what are their perceptions on the usefulness of the medium and also on the ease of use and motivation to do it. All participants were encouraged to share distresses and difficulties when using educational video. The study can help university policy makers, teachers and instructional designers to better understand teachers' perception on the use of this medium and draw new lines of action.
