Estruturas-QU fronteadas e o 'foco gramaticalmente controlado' : a participação de línguas africanas em línguas parcialmente e completamente reestruturadas

In this study we build on earlier work, specifically Holm (2004), which proposes that ‘partially restructured languages’, like Brazilian Vernacular Portuguese (BVP), may share part of their substrate with the Atlantic creoles – ‘fully restructured languages’. This implies that this combination of languages may share a vast cultural legacy to varying degrees. The topic we analyze is that of sentences with fronted WH-question words with focus marking in BVP, compared with parallel sentences in Atlantic creoles. Our proposal develops the concept of a highlighter or focus marker, presented in Holm (1980), found in restructured languages from the Americas to the Indian Ocean that “highlighted the world”
