Procura-se neste artigo equacionar a questão da descentralização educativa e a forma como as autarquias operacionalizam as suas atribuições neste domínio. Tratando-se do inicio de uma investigação mais lata, podemos desde já identificar uma diversidade na forma como são implementadas, por diferentes autarquias, as suas atribuições legais e detectamos uma tendência para investir em áreas de natureza pedagógica, o que poderá decorrer da tentativa de implementação de políticas locais de educação. ------ ABSTRACT ------ The aim of this paper is to analyse the educational decentralisation policies followed in the late years by the Portuguese central administration and the role of local authorities in the fullfilling of their attributions. Being the begining of a broader research project, we identify the diversity of the local authorities approach concerning the way they assume legal competencies in the educational field and we detect a trend to implement pedagogical strategies related to the different political and social situations that characterise local policies.
